Telangana plans gender education

Hyderabad: In the wake of increasing instances of crime against women, the higher education curriculum in Telangana will have a new subject or chapters in existing subjects on gender sensitization.

The curriculum will have aspects related to sexual harassment, child sex abuse, gender sensitisation and their prevention depending on the age for which they are designed. Chapters on major laws related to these crimes are also to be taught to students.

The TS government on Tuesday formed a high level committee to review the existing curriculum and recommend the new courses and chapters that can be added. Human and ethical values are already a subject from the school level.

The committee will be headed by Commissioner of Technical Education Shailaja Ramaiyer and will have representatives from all universities and departments of education.
