4-yr-old raped in school in Mumbai, non-teaching employee held

Mumbai: A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a non teaching employee of a school in suburban Bhandup, triggering protests by a group of people who vandalised the school property, police said.

The junior KG student was sexually abused by one Kesari Upadhyay, a non-teaching staff, in a toilet in the school on December 9. The girl later informed her family about the offence, police said.

Following a complaint lodged by the girl's parents on Tuesday, the accused was arrested on Wednesday, Bhandup police station's senior inspector Pratap Chavan said.

"Enraged over the incident, scores of people protested outside the school before barging into it and vandalising the property. The situation has been brought under control now," he said.

The accused has been booked under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police added.
