Mumbai: Bhandup police in Mumbai has arrested a 40-year-old staffer of a school for raping a female kindergarten student last week in the washroom.
The family of the girl had, however, been dithering on filing a complaint to avoid social stigma until they were convinced by the police and social workers.
According to the police, the 4-year-old girl lives with her mother and maternal grandparents. Her father had been missing for the past few years.
On December 9, Kesari Upadhyay, a supervisor in the school, took her to the washroom where he allegedly raped her. The girl then went home and narrated the incident to her grandmother who ignored the revelation.
“She however later began experiencing pain in her private parts and stomach. She was taken to hospital, which informed the police about the case. The girl’s statement was recorded on Tuesday.
The girl identified the accused but the latter denied any wrongdoing.
