3 held for stealing ATM batteries

Vijayawada: CCS and Suryaraopet police on Wednesday arrested three persons who stole 66 batteries from various ATM centres in Vijayawada city and West Godavari district.
According to police, K. Subramanyam, 31, an electrician, along with his friends Sk. Mohamed Ali, 34, and Sk. Mohamed Vali, 22, managed to steal the batteries, worth Rs 2.6 lakh from 22 ATM centres in Vijayawada and West Godavari in last three months.
They were arrested at Suryaraopet when they were trying to sell the stolen batteries.
Subramanyam had earlier worked as an electrician for ATMs and saw an opportunity to make easy money by resorting to theft.
He roped in his friends and they targeted ATMs under limits of Machavaram, SN Puram, Patamata, Penamaluru, Suryaraopet, Ajitsinghnagar and Krishnalanka in Vijayawada police commissionerate.
